We are spending a lot of time getting our sculpture garden back up to speed after a very stormy summer. I pretty much had to unearth the labyrinth from the tangle of weeds and vines that took over. While it’s walkable again, it still needs a bunch of work since the mini-flash floods washed away most of the sand layer that was keeping the surface looking nice and clean. Slowly, we are also unearthing all the trails and clearing away the debris as well as making new areas for art.
One of the newest areas we’re cleaning up is our gratitude garden. This space will be dedicated to everyone who donates to help us make the sculpture garden bigger and better. Large ceramic letters spelling gracias will be planted in the garden along with ceramic tiles with the names of our generous donors. Want to help us out? DONATE HERE
One of our closest neighboring businesses is Villa Santa Cruz, a sweet boutique hotel with sprawling gardens, beachside restaurants, horse stables and luxury rooms. Earth Art Studio has partnered with them to offer off site desert art tours for guests and we were just mentioned in this recent article written about them in Dujour Magazine. How cool is that!?
Just a reminder that if you come out here to visit the studio, you can make a day out of it by making a reservation and enjoy a meal with your toes in the sand at Villa Santa Cruz!
I haven’t, but I’m excited to try and learn a new skill! The Crafts + Cocktails Workshop Series is designed to provide a fun environment to try new things, learn from each other and be creative!
Join us November 22 from 1 – 4, to learn basic embroidery stitches and create a desert themed design on a bandana with Christina Dena, all while enjoying a cocktail/mocktail in the quiet of the desert!
We have big plans for the sculpture garden, like really big plans and you can be a part of it! We’ve added a donate button in the shop and when you donate, you help us:
create new sculptures + installations for the permanent collection of the garden
off-set local artists costs for exhibiting like transportation, installation + infrastructure
maintain the sculpture trail – the desert likes to take over!
make upgrades to the garden like new features, nooks + trails to explore
make visits free to local schools + educational groups
When You Donate: a ceramic tile with your name stamped on it will be added to the sculpture garden in gratitude for your support! DONATE HERE+ THANK YOU!

If you haven’t seen the show (or even if you have!) we invite you to come up and enjoy the final moments of our inaugural group spring exhibition. Walk through the sculpture garden, explore the studio, buy the art, and enjoy the food + drinks available from Comida Viva all while watching the sun set on the ocean. It might rain a bit or maybe not, but either way, it will be a beautiful afternoon – promise.

Kevin is one of the nine artists participating in Sticks + Stones | Palos + Piedras exhibition at Earth Art Studio. He is exhibiting a cast in bronze piece displayed in the arroyo and is also the architect who designed our studio through his business Taller de Terreno Arquitectura.
About the Artist: Kevin has a passion for minimalism as it relates to living spaces and sculptures that work in harmony with their natural surroundings. He was influenced by self-taught Japanese architect Tadao Ando and his use of concrete to express a minimal relationship between interior and exterior. Over the past 35 years Wickham has designed and built more than 50 of his own projects and countless others for clients and friends in the U.S., Mexico, and Southeast Asia. As early as 35 years ago, Wickham began incorporating passive design into his buildings, including solar energy, water collection, planted roofs, and natural lighting and insulation to make the buildings more sustainable. “My goal is to create minimal and beautiful living spaces that work in harmony with the site’s natural surroundings.”
About the Art: Inspired by minimalist forms that connect the natural world to the manmade world, Vaca began as a small piece of wood that Kevin found while roaming the desert. He was attracted to its shape which appeared to be similar to the form of a cow skull. Kevin had the piece of wood scanned, digitally enlarged and then 3D printed. The resulting form was then cast in bronze and given a patina.
Earth Art Studio believes in supporting working artists! Purchasing art work and/or contributing a donation for your visit to the sculpture trail helps keep our creative community thriving and making more art!
Currently, the studio is only open for scheduled events and by appointment.
