Hive Installation

Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History

I am so excited to announce that I was selected to install a sculpture from my Hive Series at the Museum of Art & History’s open stairwell space for 2014. This sculpture is comprised of 150 hand-built ceramic pieces and is my largest installation to date. Visit Jenni Ward Art on Facebook to see photos and video of the installation in process.

About the Hive Installation:
The piece is a visual expression of the energy between opposing forces. In nature, a hive illustrates the natural balance between strength and fragility, curiosity and avoidance, security and vulnerability. In this sculpture, these concepts are explored using a geometric arrangement of multiple ceramic forms inspired by nature. The negative spaces between each ring and each piece create an active energy that is felt but not seen. The combination of these elements create an abstract interpretation of a hive structure both physically and conceptually.
