Featured Work: Specimen Series

Sometimes it’s easy to forget about older works when there’s so much shiny new goodies coming out of the studio! So, I wanted to bring to light the last four remaining pieces from the Specimen Series. These little bento box style sculptures hold abstract forms reminiscent of the collection of rocks or shells that you keep near and dear. Each box has a small loop one the back for easy hanging. They are available in the online shop or if you want to see them in person, come to the Blue Umbrellas Art Fair next weekend! They may be a few years old, but they’re still treasures waiting to be added to your collection!

Featured Work: Specimen Series

Featured Work: Specimen Series | the dirt | Jenni Ward ceramic sculptureRemember collecting shells on the beach as a kid?

You would collect hundreds but have to whittle down your collection to a few special ones because your parents wouldn’t let you bring the whole beach home with you. So you’d get home with your prized finds and keep them in some kind of box or container that would showcase them but also keep them safe.

They would always be a reminder of the day, the quiet focus, the search and the excitement of finding something special.

The Specimen Series is inspired by the memory of those finds, unique pieces organized and boxed for display. The online shop has only 9 pieces from the Specimen Series left. These bento box style works are small enough to fit in nearly any space making them a great gift for the collector on your list.

REPOST: Specimen Series ON SALE!

The specimen series are small wall mounted sculptures inspired by biological specimen collections often seen in museums. They are abstracted version of seeds, fungi, shells and bones made entirely of clay and arranged in an intriguing compositions. Reminiscent of beautifully arranged sushi in bento boxes, these pieces are designed to intrigue. The ceramic boxes create frames which both restrict and enhance the pieces that they contain. The forms in each box have been fused into place through the kiln firing process.
