umbel series

The Umbel Series Installation was a temporary installation included in the Environmental Installations exhibit at the UCSC Arboretum in Santa Cruz CA. The saffron colored trail of abstract ceramic flowers is inspired by the folklore of bright yellow mustard flowers leading the way from mission to mission along the Camino Real. The installation is named the Umbel Series due to the umbrella shaped flower structures that inspired the forms.

The installation is about 100′ x 2′ x 3′ and is made up of 230 individual abstract umbel flowers, each flower is approximately 7″x 7″x 8″. Every flower has slight variations in size, color and number of spikes, each one is handmade and unique. The flowers are designed to be placed outdoors and will withstand general weather conditions but must be brought inside during below freezing temperatures to avoid damage. The flowers are available for pre-sale in the online shop.

For local buyers, a picking day towards the end of the exhibition will be arranged at the end of October for you to come and pick your flowers for transplanting into your own garden. Please select “local pick-up” when choosing your shipping options at check out to avoid being charged a shipping fee. The Umbels are currently on display at Sierra Azul Gardens as part of the Sculpture IS: 2017 exhibit.

For non-local buyers, the flowers can shipped to you directly at the close of the exhibit. You can choose to purchase only flowers or add on the 2.5′ metal steel stems at no additional cost other than shipping fees.
